There are so many places in our community where members of our church could reach out to others--just as Christ reached out to so many others. He never had a church building, He didn't have an organized worship service, He didn't have committees and an Ad Bd, and yet He touched so many people in life-changing ways! If Sunday Serve proved one thing to me, it was that we need to get out of our four walls and into the world if we're going to spread God's word, love, and grace into the world. There are children who need to be read to and tutored, there are young people who need to be mentored and shown attention, there are hungry people who need to be fed, there are elderly people who need to be visited or taken to appointments. This is the vision that I believe Pastor Kandace has, and I think it's the vision that our church needs to adopt--we need to "break out" of our "comfortable" four walls and show we are Christians by our love! I applaud Kandace for trying to "get us going!"

Hi Pastor Kandace, For several weeks I've been wanting to write to you about the personal impact that your sermons have had on me. Before the holidays you express so well what I've always known to be true for me and the children I teach in public school. God is present in our schools and cannot be kept out regardless of what others may try. He dwells in many of my students and within me. I take Him to school every morning and into my classroom. Thank you for sharing and express your thoughts on this topic to our congregation. This past week your words were straight from God to my heart. On Saturday night I read a disturbing post with a picture on Facebook that upset me greatly. The post was a Facebook "like" of an atheist's point of view about parenting. The picture was of two parents wearing halos with a halo leash around the neck of their child. The message was about giving children the facts/science and letting children make up their own minds...don't indoctrinate your children. I'm sure you know the kind of garbage I'm speaking about. I could have let this past if it hadn't been posted by my daughter-in-law! It breaks my heart. In your sermon when you used the words, "Hold a halo above the head of your children and help them to grow into it...to be the person that God made them to be!"--I could hard believe what I was hearing. I have a wonderful image in my mind to replace the terrible one from facebook. Thank God! I'm working on creating a picture to go with the words you spoke. My hope is that one day it will be a treasured gift that might be passed on. Please keep my son Chad's family in your prayers. Thank you for being a blessing to our church. God bless you, Linda

That was so thoughtful of Mr. Choplin to send a message. How many composers would do that?

It was great to see and sing to a full house. Pastors comments may have had something to do with so many being there. It was a joy to be a part of the music on Sunday.

Pepper - thank you for your gift of music! We are always thrilled to sing your music. In fact, you have been christened as our Chancel Choir's official favorite composer! Our nickname for you is Dr. Pepper :)

Heaven's Child is a wonderful addition to your oeuvre. I think the poetic language is appropriate because how does anyone describe the wonder and majesty and fullness of God in literal terms anyway?

Besides, if poetic language is acceptable for use in scripture, it is certainly acceptable in a musical work that describes God's work in the world.

Again, thank you for your gift to us, it has had a big impact on our congregation!

Kadace, I hope the presentation of HEAVEN'S CHILD went well. I let the creativity fly on this one and wondered if people would follow me with the poetic language. Please thank your choir for helping me share a fresh approach to the telling of the ageless story. Have a blessed Christmas.
