Easter Joy Continues

Kandace Brooks

What a glorious Easter we celebrated together! So many people worked extra hard to make our Holy Week and Easter special. Joe Corporon and the choirs did triple duty, singing Thursday, Friday and Sunday! Pam Stewart shared a beautiful testimony on Thursday night. Diane Forbes and her wonderful team not only decorated the sanctuary, but provided a marvelous meal and opportunity for Easter morning fellowship. The United Methodist Men came through with set up assistance (and they also hide a mean Easter Egg!). Elizabeth Flynn and her volunteers were instrumental in putting it all together, often behind the scenes, but certainly no less important. And the weekend before the same spirit prevailed with the community Easter Egg Hunt. I am so proud of the many ways that you offer your hands and hearts to God’s work in the world. Press on, my friends, press on – we are in this together.

Now that A Disciple’s Path course is completed, I would love to hear your reactions and responses. Please take a moment and drop me an email or note about your experience. I would especially be interested to hear about your dreams and visions for how Tomoka United Methodist Church might become more and more of what God intends her to be!

Easter joy continues – let’s celebrate LIFE together!

Christ Is Risen, Indeed!

Kandace Brooks

Dear Friends,

Christ is risen indeed, HALLELUJAH! This day we unbury the shouts of praise and promise and greet each other in the ancient way. This is a day of hope, of triumph, of life, of the extravagant and extreme love of God for all humanity. This is the event to which Christians around world can point and declare, “We serve a Living God!”

The power of love is a timeless story – and I would imagine we can all point to moments in our lives where love triumphed over the most difficult of circumstances. The gift of Easter is hope – unshakable hope in the power of love to conquer death; the ability of love to offer second (and third, and fourth) chances; the call of love to ‘come home’ again – even if for the very first time!

“For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth, and He shall reign for ever and ever. HALLELUJAH!”

Blessings and joy,

Kandace

Great Fifty Days of Easter

Steven D. Bruns

During these Great Fifty Days of Easter, we celebrate our life in Christ in a wonderful way. We remember and are thankful for the Resurrection, but we also look forward to the Ascension and Pentecost. These two days, while not as inspiring as Easter, are nevertheless very important Christian holy days. Read more →

Easter Vigil

Steven D. Bruns

Dear Tomoka Family and Friends,

Christ is Risen!

I want to thank all of you who participated in our Holy Week worship services. They were absolutely wonderful. The power of the presence of God was palpable, thanks be to God.

If you missed the services, this excerpt from the United Methodist Book of Worship introducing the Easter Vigil service we celebrated should help paint a picture of what took place: Read more →

April 22, 2012 Sermon

HeIsRisen_188x250

Luke 24:36-48
Pastor Steven D. Bruns

In this Gospel passage, three main points are shown: Jesus physically raised from the dead and was not a spirit or “remembrance” of his presence among the disciples; it is God who gives understanding for the Bible and without his Spirit we cannot understand Scripture; and it is impossible to have a Christian life of grace and glory without suffering, since Christ had to both suffer and was then glorified.

Subtle Reminders from God

HeIsRisen_188x250

John 20:19-23
Ken Irvine (Candidate for Ordained Ministry)

Christ Is Risen!
He Is Risen Indeed!

The risen Christ, our Lord and Savior, gave us the most incredible gift of all time – an empty tomb! That empty tomb means through Christ we are able to defeat sin and death for all eternity. Christ’s gift of the Holy Spirit means that same spirit which enabled the apostles to accomplish such incredible things dwells inside us, enabling us to do the same thing.

Take heart, the Spirit is with us always, which means we are never alone. The Spirit will be ever-present, enabling us to deal with anything that comes along.

Mark 16:1-8 (Easter Day)
Pastor Steven D. Bruns

Pastor Bruns expounds on the good news of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Easter Day sermon is the Paschal Homily, written by St. John Chrysostom (c. 347–407), a sermon which is traditionally read on Easter morning in many eastern churches. The text of the sermon is available at the link above.
