Being a visible and active presence of Christ in our community

Singing hymns are a big part of each service at Tomoka UMC with Joe Corporon, Music Director, and Steve Hostetler, Organist, providing the accompaniment.

When a month has five Sundays, on the fifth Sunday we take up a loose change collection for the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home. The children participate by taking decorated coffee cans among the congregation and people drop in their coins. That’s why we call it “The Noisy Offering”. The pictures below show the Pastor sending children to collect the Noisy Offering and a photo of the Pastor and the children placing the offerings at the altar and saying a prayer.

Pastor Brian Johnson delivers a reading of God’s Holy word and a sermon.

Our 10:30 Sunday Service enjoys the singing of the Chancel Choir. Membership in the choir is open to all.

Holy Communion is offered at both worship services each Sunday. United Methodists celebrate an open table which means,”All who love Christ, earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another are invited to join us in offering our prayer of thanksgiving and receive the body and blood of Christ—regardless of age or church membership.”

Each Sunday Service closes by joining hands in fellowship and sing a closing hymn.

Immediately after the worship service we gathered in Bleekman Hall for lunch. The Tomoka UMC Nurture Team had set up the tables, prepared the drinks, and staffed the kitchen to keep the table stocked with fried chicken. Individual members brought side dishes and desserts. The meal and fellowship were enjoyed by all who attended. We are fortunate to have the members who pitch in and help plan and set up these meals under Diane Forbes’ leadership of the Nurture Team. Their service is appreciated by everyone.
